Django Girls to organize free web development and coding workshops, create open-sourced online tutorials and curate amazing first experiences with technology for Women and Girls in Accra.
Django Girls – a non-profit organization and a community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources, and support will be organizing a free one-day Python and Django workshops in Accra on June 16.
The one-day workshop is targeted at women and girls interested in learning the basics of web development by creating their first website in both Python and Django programming languages.
A volunteer run organization with hundreds of people contributing to bringing more amazing women into the world of technology, Django Girls are making technology more approachable by creating resources designed with empathy.
According to the organizers, the workshops are for beginners with little to no experience in coding/programming and those with basic technical knowledge of CSS and HTML can still apply to attend.
By 2020, it is estimated that there will be 1.4 million jobs available in computing-related fields but currently women represent 18%. Django Girls want to change this statistic through coding.
