MTN Launches 2021 Ayoba Hackathon Contest.

MTN Ghana has launched its 2021 Ayoba Hackathon Contest aimed at driving its digitization agenda while providing opportunities for developers and start-ups.

MTN Ghana is inviting developers, innovators and start-ups to register for its 2021 Ayoga Hackaton to participate in the national contest between 27 July – 25 August 2021.

The Ayoba App is a free instant messaging platform that was designed for Africans to properly serve the needs of Africans. It provides support for channels, payments, bots, and micro-apps.

Following the launch of the 2021 Ayoba Hackathon at the MTN House at Ridge on Tuesday, July 27, MTN Ghana is positioning itself to be a digital company that will help to set the tone for the total transformation of the business, which is a part of its Ambition 2025.

Ayoba, together with MTN Ghana, is hosting a virtual hackathon from July to September 2021, for Ghanaian developers. The event aims to introduce Ayoba as a platform for developers and a SuperApp to third parties.

Nicknamed ‘the African SuperApp’ by Winnie Dzidonu, MTN Ghana’s Manager Applications and Partnerships, the App is designed for the African digital consumer and is available to customers on all networks in Ghana. Over one million local users are currently using the App.

Also commenting on the competition, Winnie Dzidonu, MTN Ghana’s Manager Applications and Partnerships, said the Ayoba platform is ripe to launch more micro-apps through which developers, start-ups, and businesses could reach out to over one million users who would enjoy its services without using their data bundles on MTN.

The top three winners will receive cash prizes of GHC 20,000, GHC 10,000, and GHC 8,000 respectively. They will also receive complimentary co-working space at the MTN Ghana Head Office in Accra, as well as technical, marketing and development support from Ayoba and MTN Ghana, subject to the conclusion of a further agreement between these top three winners and MTN Ghana and Ayoba.
