Music streaming service, Spotify has expanded into four North African countries:Â Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria but there is a catch.
Earlier this year, there was talk that Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming platform was planning to expand into the Middle East and North Africa sometime in Q4 2018.
It looks like the speculation was true, as Spotify has now launched in a handful of MENA countries — but only to those with invites.
This makes Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria the only other supported countries in Africa after South Africa. However, there is a catch. At the moment, an invitation is required to sign up. Spotify is now available in Lebanon, Jordan, UAE, KSA, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria.
There are a couple of nations in the Middle East and North Africa region that is still missing from the list. These include; Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Lybia, and Mauritania.
This isn’t an unpenetrated region. There are established music streaming platforms already operating in the region, chief of them, Anghami, a regional streaming service based in Lebanon that already has over 55 million users.
Deezer is also available in several MENA countries, as is Huawei’s streaming service.
