The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has officially opened Ghana’s first-ever Tier 4 Data Center, ONIX Data Centre.

The first-ever Tier 4 Data centre in Ghana, ONIX Data Centre, has been launched by Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

One of the few tier 4 digital centres in Africa, the centre complements Ghana’s current data centre and will serve not just the domestic market but also the subregion.

The certification by Onix to establish a tier 4 data centre in Ghana is a significant step in the strategy to develop a world-class data hub in Ghana to serve the local and sub-regional market, the Vice President stated at the center’s opening.

According to Dr. Bawumia, “the accreditation will meet the increasingly strict requirements laid forth by regulated institutions such as banks, healthcare providers, and some government agencies which manage sensitive information.

The Vice President stated that the development of the ultra-modern data centre is in accordance with the government’s objective of making Ghana a digital hub in the sub-region and that the investment would provide businesses with more options for sensitive data storage.

The opening of this data centre perfectly complements the government’s ambition and desire to ensure that we have appropriate data of the country on which to build our digitalization agenda.

Data centres like this 12-megawatt ONIX facility serve as the starting point for a wave of revolution in businesses and organizational structures. Without having to invest in expensive on-premise equipment and infrastructure that is, to be honest, not economically viable, local CEOs may now adopt and execute world-class solutions and be hosted in-country”, he remarked.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the size of the work the government has done in its digitization effort while reiterating the government’s commitment to building an environment that will allow businesses to thrive in the digital arena.

The introduction of the property address system, the Ghana Card’s unique identifying feature, and mobile money interoperability are just a few of the successful and ongoing projects the government can cite as part of its digitalization plan. The adoption of new business processes is made possible by digital infrastructure, which is the next frontier in the future. Our job as the government is to create enabling policies that encourage companies like yours to invest and produce long-lasting outcomes.

Only a few nations in Africa have tier 4 data storage, the most complicated data storage system with the most redundant components. It features redundancy for every component and is entirely fault-tolerant.
