Ten questions interview series with Oluwatoyin Sanni, Software Developer at Andela and co-founder of TechInPink, a tutorial based startup from Nigeria.
Oluwatoyin Yetunde Sanni is a Nigerian based Software Developer currently working with Andela.
How did you get involved in technology
I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart, figuring out how they worked and then putting them back together again. I was introduced to a computer very early.
I remember opening my first yahoo account when I was barely 12 years and this was the era when the Internet was not a luxury as it is now. Even though I earned a degree in Computer Science [from the University of Ilorin]. But really I started learning how to program after I graduated — it’s not too late, you know!
What are you up to now!
Now I work as a Software Developer at Andela with distributed teams in tech companies across the globe. I’ve built several amazing applications aimed at providing solutions to problems in my society. The one I love most is ‘Ayewa’ — an application aimed at solving accommodation problems for students within a geographical region.
Tell us about TechinPink
We hope to organize more of this event, to bridge the gender inequality in tech. Our mission is to inspire and encourage more women into tech and create a path for their career goals.
We strongly believe that having diversified views of issues in the provides avenues for creativity. We are planning to launch a mentorship path for ladies in universities/college who are interested in programming.
What tips would you give to your younger self?
When I started learning how to code, at some point, I felt it wasn’t for me and that I couldn’t handle it. The fact that I have always wanted to make life better for people has pushed me past several stumbling blocks and challenges which I have encountered.
I have come to realize that if you have a strong passion for what you do, you will find out that even in the most challenging situations there will be within you a capacity to find a solution to it. Find your passion, work hard and diligently at it. See you at the top!
