IC Wealth on MTN MoMo

IC Wealth is now available on the MTN MoMo app, giving customers access to a regulated liquidity fund without requiring a bank account or branch visit.

Millions of MTN Mobile Money users in Ghana can now invest in a regulated fund directly from their phones following the launch of IC Wealth on the MoMo app.

The new service, introduced by IC Asset Managers Ghana and MobileMoney Fintech Limited, gives customers access to the IC Liquidity Fund without requiring a bank account, branch visit or lengthy onboarding process.

Users can start investing with as little as GH¢1. They can also add funds, monitor their holdings and request redemptions through the MoMo app.

The partnership marks another step in MoMo’s transition from a platform used mainly for payments and transfers into a broader financial-services ecosystem.

How IC Wealth works on MTN MoMo

IC Wealth is available inside the MTN MoMo app under its financial-services section.

Customers can find the service through the following steps:

  1. Open the MoMo app.
  2. Select Financial Services.
  3. Choose Investing.
  4. Select IC Wealth.

Because the onboarding process uses information already linked to a customer’s MoMo account, users should have less additional paperwork to complete.

Once registered, customers can invest, make additional contributions, monitor their holdings and redeem funds from their phones.

IC Asset Managers says the product has no entry or exit fees. The minimum investment is GH¢1, lowering a barrier that has traditionally kept many people away from professionally managed investment products.

The service does not require users to maintain a conventional bank account.

What users are investing in

The product available through MoMo is the IC Liquidity Fund, a licensed money-market mutual fund managed by IC Asset Managers Ghana.

The fund invests primarily in high-quality, liquid fixed-income securities issued or backed by the Government of Ghana and selected licensed banks.

Its objective is to balance access to investors’ money with the opportunity to earn returns from professionally managed fixed-income assets.

That makes it different from leaving money inside a standard mobile money wallet. A MoMo balance is primarily designed for transactions, while money placed in the IC Liquidity Fund is invested in financial instruments.

The distinction matters because investment returns can rise or fall and are not guaranteed.

Regulation and custody

The IC Liquidity Fund is a licensed collective investment scheme regulated by Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission.

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana acts as the fund’s custodian, meaning the fund’s assets are held separately by the custodian rather than being kept directly by the investment manager.

At the launch, Anthony Degbato, Head of Investment Management at the SEC, described the partnership as an important development for Ghana’s capital market.

However, he also cautioned customers that a regulated product is not automatically risk-free. Investors should read the fund’s scheme particulars, understand its fees and assess the risks before committing their money.

IC Asset Managers is licensed by the SEC to operate as an investment adviser and fund manager. It is also licensed by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority as a pension fund manager.

Meeting customers where they already transact

Isaac Adomako Boamah, CEO of IC Asset Managers Ghana, said the partnership is designed to make investment products available through a platform that millions of Ghanaians already use.

We believe the future of wealth management is not about asking people to change their behaviour. It is about meeting them where they already are,” he said.

Boamah noted that IC Asset Managers has spent about 25 years managing money for businesses, pension funds and institutional clients. The MoMo partnership extends access to individual investors who may previously have considered investment products too complicated or inaccessible.

You no longer have to choose between allowing your money to grow and having easy access to it,” he added. “Through IC Wealth on MoMo, you can have both.”

The service was officially launched on July 22, 2026, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. IC Group published details of the launch and product terms.

MoMo is moving beyond payments

Mobile money has already changed how Ghanaians send cash, pay bills, purchase airtime and support businesses.

MTN says its MoMo service has more than 17 million users, giving the IC Wealth partnership the potential to place regulated investments in front of a considerably larger audience than conventional investment channels typically reach. MTN Ghana provides current information about its MoMo service.

Paapa Osei, Head of Legal and Reputation Management at MobileMoney Fintech Limited, said helping customers manage money for the future is the next stage of the platform’s development.

The partnership also builds on the role MoMo played in MTN Ghana’s 2018 initial public offering, when customers could purchase shares using their phones.

What users should consider before investing

The GH¢1 entry point makes experimenting with the platform relatively accessible, but convenience should not replace basic due diligence.

Before investing, users should:

  • Keep emergency spending money separate.
  • Read the fund’s official documents.
  • Understand how redemptions are processed.
  • Confirm whether the fund matches their financial goals.
  • Avoid treating historical or displayed returns as guaranteed future performance.
  • Never share a MoMo PIN, one-time password or account credentials.

Users should access IC Wealth only through the official MoMo application. Any person who asks for a customer’s PIN or requests that investment funds be transferred to an unfamiliar personal number should be treated with suspicion.

A potentially significant financial-inclusion move

Allowing customers to invest from GH¢1 removes several practical barriers at once: minimum capital, bank-account requirements, travel to a branch and complex paperwork.

That does not automatically make every MoMo customer an investor. Financial education, trust, product transparency and reliable customer support will still determine whether people use the service consistently.

What this launch does accomplish is straightforward: it puts a regulated investment option inside an application that millions of Ghanaians already understand and use.

For Ghana’s digital-finance sector, that is a meaningful shift. MoMo is no longer only helping users move money. It is increasingly becoming a place where they can save, insure, plan and invest.
